WhatPort Pro Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 31 July 2026
These terms govern your purchase and use of WhatPort Pro. Please read them before buying. By purchasing or activating a WhatPort Pro licence key, you agree to them.
The free WhatPort app is covered separately by the MIT licence. See section 2.
1. Who you are contracting with
WhatPort Pro is sold by Bitmoor Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17133695, with its registered office at Unit A478, 4-6 Greatorex Street, London, United Kingdom, E1 5NF.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Bitmoor Ltd. "You" means the person or organisation buying the licence. Contact us at [email protected].
2. The free app is separate
The WhatPort app is open source and released under the MIT licence, the full text of which is in the public repository. That licence permits commercial use, modification and redistribution, subject only to retaining the copyright notice.
Nothing in these terms restricts, replaces or adds conditions to your rights under the MIT licence. These terms apply only to WhatPort Pro, the paid upgrade.
3. What WhatPort Pro is
WhatPort Pro unlocks the Flight Recorder inside the same WhatPort app. It is not a separate download. It requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
On Intel Macs the app runs in reduced detail, because they do not publish the USB-C port controller data Apple Silicon does. The Flight Recorder works, but only on the data that machine reports: per-port USB-PD contracts, pin configuration and port health counters are not available on Intel and so are absent from recordings and exports made there.
The features included in Pro are described on the WhatPort Pro section of the website. That description reflects the product at the time of purchase.
4. Your licence
On payment we grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use WhatPort Pro, subject to these terms. The licence may not be transferred without our written consent, which we will not unreasonably withhold (see section 22).
- One licence key may be activated on up to two Macs at any one time.
- The licence is granted to the purchasing person or organisation, not to a named individual. Where an organisation buys a key, any of its personnel may use it within the two-Mac limit.
- The licence is perpetual. Provided you comply with these terms, we will not withdraw your right to use the version of Pro you bought.
- If you replace a Mac and reach the activation limit, contact support and we will reset it.
5. What you may not do
You may not resell, rent, sublicence or redistribute a WhatPort Pro licence key, publish or share a key so that others can use it outside your organisation, or circumvent, disable or tamper with licence activation.
You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Pro components of the software, except to the extent that this restriction may not be excluded or limited by law. In particular, nothing here affects rights you have under applicable law to decompile software to achieve interoperability.
For the avoidance of doubt, this restriction applies only to the closed-source Pro components, which are proprietary to Bitmoor Ltd and are not published in the public repository. Everything in that repository is MIT licensed and is not restricted by this section.
6. Price and payment
WhatPort Pro costs £4.99 per licence key at the price shown on the website when you buy. This is a one-time payment, not a subscription. Prices are in pounds sterling.
Bitmoor Ltd is not registered for UK VAT. No UK VAT is charged on your purchase and we cannot issue a UK VAT invoice. Your Stripe receipt is your proof of purchase.
Payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe under their own terms and privacy policy and never reach us. We can see the transaction record and the email address you bought with, nothing more.
We may change the price of WhatPort Pro at any time. A change never affects a purchase already made.
7. Delivery
Your licence key is sent by email to the address used at checkout, normally within a few minutes of payment clearing. Some payment methods take longer to confirm, in which case the key is sent once the payment settles.
If your key has not arrived, check your spam folder first, then contact [email protected] with your Stripe receipt number and we will resend it.
8. Activation and offline use
WhatPort validates your licence key with our licensing server when you first activate it, and once each time the app launches afterwards. This is how the two-Mac limit is enforced.
If the server cannot be reached, Pro continues to work offline for up to 30 days. An internet connection is required for the initial activation.
9. Refunds
If WhatPort Pro is not right for you, contact [email protected] within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. You do not need to give a reason.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method through Stripe. On refund, your licence key is deactivated and you must stop using Pro features. You may continue to use the free app.
If you are buying as a consumer rather than for a business, this promise is in addition to your statutory rights and does not affect them.
10. Updates
Updates to WhatPort Pro are included at no extra cost. You will receive them for as long as we continue to develop and release them.
We do not commit to releasing any particular feature, to any release schedule, or to developing Pro indefinitely. Pro is sold on the basis of what it does today. Anything that arrives later is a bonus, not a commitment.
11. What WhatPort is, and is not
WhatPort reads the information macOS exposes about your ports, links, power contracts and connected devices, and explains it in plain English. It works from what the hardware reports rather than by physically measuring anything, which makes it a diagnostic tool rather than a test instrument.
Some of what WhatPort shows comes from data a device, dock, charger or cable reports about itself. Any of those can misreport, whether through a manufacturing fault, a design shortcut or deliberate misrepresentation. WhatPort can only tell you what was reported and what the connection actually achieved.
It follows that:
- WhatPort output is not a certification. It is not a USB Implementers Forum or Thunderbolt certification, a conformance or compliance test, or proof that a port, cable or device is genuine, counterfeit, safe or unsafe. Do not present it as any of those, to a supplier, a customer or anyone else.
- Port health scoring is not a hardware diagnosis. It counts how often faults recur on a port over time. A poor score is a prompt to investigate, not a finding that the hardware is defective, and it is not evidence for a warranty or repair claim on its own.
- Findings describe data, not manufacturers. Where WhatPort flags a reading as unusual or inconsistent, that is a statement about the data read from that specific unit on that specific connection. It is not an assertion about any named manufacturer, brand or product line, and must not be represented as one.
- Do not rely on it alone for consequential decisions. WhatPort must not be the sole basis for any decision where being wrong could cause injury, property damage or financial loss. Verify independently.
- Not for safety-critical use. WhatPort is not designed, tested or certified for use in medical, aviation, automotive, maritime, industrial control, nuclear or any other environment where failure could lead to death, injury or serious harm. Do not use it in those settings.
12. Support
Support for WhatPort Pro is provided by email at [email protected], on a best-effort basis. We aim to reply promptly but do not guarantee any response time or resolution time, and there is no service level agreement.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the licensing server or the website. The 30-day offline grace period in section 8 is designed so that a temporary outage does not stop you working.
13. If the licensing service is discontinued
If we ever retire the licence activation service, we will provide a means for existing licence holders to continue using WhatPort Pro on the Macs they have already activated, for example through an app update that removes the online check. Your perpetual licence does not depend on us running a server forever.
14. Warranty disclaimer
WhatPort Pro is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, conditions and representations that are not expressly set out in these terms, whether implied by statute, common law or otherwise.
In particular, we do not warrant that the software will be error free or uninterrupted, that its readings will be complete or accurate in every case, or that it is fit for any particular purpose you have in mind. Apple may change what macOS exposes at any time, which can change or remove what WhatPort is able to read.
If you are a consumer, this section does not affect your statutory rights.
15. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
Subject to that, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with these terms or your use of WhatPort Pro, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, is limited to the amount you paid for your licence.
We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of anticipated savings, loss or corruption of data, damage to hardware or equipment, or any indirect or consequential loss, however arising.
This allocation of risk is reflected in the price, and Pro is sold on the clear basis set out in section 11.
16. Data protection
Our privacy policy explains what data the app and the purchase process handle. In summary, buying Pro involves your email address, your licence key, and the hardware UUID of each Mac you activate on. The free app sends none of that, and the Flight Recorder's history stays on your Mac.
17. Volume and site licensing
Each Pro licence covers two Macs, so for a handful of machines you can simply buy additional licences. If you need WhatPort Pro on ten or more Macs, email [email protected]. We offer multi-seat and site licensing on request, and will agree sensible terms rather than have you buy keys one at a time. Any agreed volume terms supplement these terms and prevail over them where they conflict.
18. Termination
We may terminate your Pro licence if you materially breach these terms, in particular by sharing or reselling keys or by circumventing licence activation. Where the breach can be put right, we will tell you and give you a reasonable opportunity to do so first.
On termination you must stop using Pro features. You may continue to use the free MIT licensed app, which is unaffected.
19. Notices
Any notice you need to give us under these terms should be sent by email to [email protected]. Email is the fastest way to reach us and the address we monitor. You may also write to our registered office at the address in section 1.
We will send notices to you at the email address you bought your licence with, so please keep it current or tell us if it changes.
20. Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email [email protected] with the details and we will look into it and reply. We would always rather sort a problem out directly than have you left unhappy.
Raising a complaint with us does not affect any legal rights you have, including your right to take a dispute further if we cannot resolve it between us.
21. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for future purchases. The version that applies to you is the one published when you bought your licence. We will not apply changes retrospectively in a way that reduces your rights.
22. General
These terms, together with our privacy policy and any volume licensing agreement we have signed with you, are the entire agreement between us about WhatPort Pro. They replace anything said or written beforehand. You confirm that you have not relied on any statement, promise or representation that is not set out in them. This does not limit liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, this paragraph does not affect your rights in respect of any statement we made that you relied on.
We may assign or transfer our rights and obligations under these terms, for example if the business is sold, provided this does not reduce your rights. You may not transfer your licence without our written consent, which we will not unreasonably withhold. If your business is sold or reorganised and you want the licence to move with it, just ask.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
